British warships towards South American and an American frigate with Spanish soldiers on board according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 13 October 1825
Madrid, 26 September. From Santa Cruz de Tenerife came tidings dated 24 August that a British corvette coming from Portsmouth towards the South Sea anchored there. On board was the British consul general from Peru. Quite a lot of British warships destined towards Spanish America passed. An American 3 mast ship coming from Lima with on board 82 officers and around 30 soldiers of the royal army of Peru arrived destined towards Spain. The soldiers were in the largest disorder. The administrator of the island paid them 2.500 solid piasters on account of their wages so that they could buy what they most needed. Inhabitants refused to take the soldiers in their houses.
