French naval base at Toulon strengthened according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 7 October 1852

The President signed at Toulon a decision to enlarge the defence works of Toulon to confirm the preponderance of the French navy in the Mediterranean. There were in that area just two large naval ports both French namely Toulon and Algiers and with a steam navy as the connection.
