Italian naval shipbuilding program according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag: kleine courant dated 10 January 1906

Regina Elena-class (including the Roma)

The Italian government ordered the building of a pair battleships of the Roma type (1) and 4 cruisers of the St. George type(2). Of the latter were 3 to be build in England.

1. Regina-Elena class 14.137 tons battleships consisted of the Regina Elena, Vittorio Emanuele, Roma and Napoli with a main armament of 2x1-30.5cm/12" cal 40guns, preceded by Regina Margherita-class and succeeded by Dante Alighieri. Dante Alighieri was laid down on 6 June 1909 and succeeded by the Conti di Cavour-class, consisting of the Conte di Cavour, Guilio Cesare and Leonardo da Vinci, all three laid down in 1910.
2. This must be the San Giorgio-class armoured cruisers, consisting of the San Giorgio and San Marco, both built in Italy, preceded by the Pisa-class but not succeeded.
