Italian navy experimenting with a submarine in 1895 according to the Dutch newspaper Goessche Courant dated 30 November 1895

An item reported that in the harbour of Spezzia experiments were executed with a submarine. If it was a success the Italian navy would order another two submarines of the same design. The vessel had a length of 24 meter and a maximum beam of 3 meter. It was egg-shaped while the ends were somehow round off and moved with electricity as propulsion power. Continuously was fresh air provided allowing the crew to stay under water for several hours. Her speed was the fastest if compared with any other submarine at that moment built.
