According to a tiding dated Madrid 2 March consisted
the Spanish navy of 9-112 gun ships, 3-94 gun ships, 8-80 gun ships, 42-74 gun
ships, 7-68 gun ships, 2-64 guns and 4-35 guns, totally 71 ships, further more
42 frigates, 16 chebecqs and so on, totally 238 ships and vessels with a total
armament of 8,984 guns and was men still busy at Cadiz, Cartagena and Ferrol
with building new ships.
