Part of the US squadron commanded by commodore John Rodgers in the Mediterranean. Emmons wrote that the gunboats no. 1-10 were built under the act of 28 February 1803. He described them as low, narrow built vessels with as dimensions 71 x 18 feet, mostly sloop rigged and an armament consisted of 2 long 32 pounders. While crossing the Atlantic were the guns stored below. Ordered to be built at Boston on 1 September 1804, launched on 24 April 1805, on 4 May departed towards the Mediterranean. Returned on 16 July 1806 at Charleston, South Carolina and on 2 August at New York.
