Austrian, British, Dutch, Egyptian, French, Russian and Turkish navies in the Levant according to the Dutch newspaper De Noord-Brabanter: staat- en letterkundig dagblad dated 5 May 1853

In the harbour of Constantinople were the French steam corvettes le Chaptal and Caton, the British frigates Fury and Tiger, a Russian and an Austrian corvette available while the Turkish fleet was ready for departure. At Smyrna were a French warship, A Turkish brig, an British corvette and a Dutch frigate. At Alexandrette were a Turkisk frigate and a brig.At Alexandria was the Egyptian fleet lying ready for departure. At Tunis were a British warships and a Turkisk corvette. At that moment were the relations between Turkey and Austria  disturbed caused by what happened in Montenegro which country wanted to become independent being a tributary state to the Ottoman empire with as result a war in 1852-1853 and Austria supporting Montenegro.
