British navy at Port Royal, Jamaica according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 7 June 1823

London, 3 June. Commodore sir Edward Owen arrived 9 April at Port Royal, Jamaica with the Gloucester (1), Phaeton (2), Valorous (3) and the Eden to relieve rear admiral sir C. Rowley at this station. The latter departed 20 April with the Sybille (5) towards Havana and England.

1. 3rd rate, England, launched at Pitcher, Northfleet 27 February 1812, 4th rate 1832, harbourservice 1861 , sold 1884, dimensions 177 x 49 x ?, 1770 tons builders measurement, 74 guns.
2. 5th rate, England, launched at Smallshaw, Liverpool, England 12 June 1782, sold but retained 1827, definitely sold 1828, dimensions 141 x 39 x ?, 944 tons builders measurement, 38 guns.
3. 6th rate, launched at the Pembroke dock yard on 10 February 1816, broken up in 1829, dimensions 122 x 31 x ?, 514 tons builders measurement, 20 guns.
4. 6th rate, launched at the shipyard of Courtney, Chester on 19 May 1814, broken up in May 1833, dimensions 108.5' x 31', builders measurement 451 tons, 24 guns. Used in the period November1816-March 1817 for testing the effects of sea water on dry rot and was for this purpose submerged in the estuarine Hamoaze.
5. 5th rate, England, captured from French 1794, sold 1833, dimensions 154 x 40 x ?, 1091 tons builders measurement, 44 guns.
