London. 17 June. Letters from Rio Janeiro dated 17 April reported the arrival of lord Cochrane there and taking over the command of the Brazilian fleet. He departed 1 April towards Bahia with a 78-gun ship of the line, 1 frigate, 2 corvettes and a brig. While Bahia received reinforcements Cochrane just intended to blockade the city waiting with an attack until another frigate and 2 fire ships reinforced him.
