The Egyptian, Greek and Turkish navies in the Levant according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 23 August 1823

Trieste, 10 August. Ships arriving from the Archipelago reported that a part of the Turkish fleet was defeated off Cape Dore not far from the South coast of Negroponte. Several Turkish ships were shot down or burned, others captured and brought to Hydra. The remaining ships sailed towards Skyros still pursued. Earlier departed two Turkish divisions towards Candia and the Ionian Sea. The latter division freed Patras and landed troops and rejoined the division at Candia and were also strengthened by ships from the Barbary States. Ismaïl Gibraltar with the Egyptian fleet was still awaited. According to rumours was the Turkish grand admiral also at Candia. A strong Greek division cruised for some days of the island Cerigo probably to attack Turkish ships returning from Patras. Some European merchant ships which tried to enter the Gulf of Salonika were captured by the Greek fleet. The latter harbour was since some time cut off from the outside world. A Greek squadron consisting of ships of Ipsara and Samos seemed to blockade the entrance to the Dardanelles while capturing several ships which came out of the channel.
