German auxiliary cruiser Prins Frederich Wilhelm berthed at Bergen, Norway according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant dated 9 August 1914

An item referred to the newspaper Manchester Guardian which received tidings from Copenhagen that the Prins Friederich Wilhelm (1) of the Norddeutsche Lloyd now converted into an auxiliary cruiser returned at Bergen coming from back from the North Sea with 400 tourists on board. The Norwegian cabinet considered to seize her. On board was the Italian ambassador in Paris, France.

1. This must be the Kronprinz Wilhelm, launched on 30 March 1901 at the shipyard AG Vulkan, Stettin, Germany as a passenger ship and which begun her maiden voyage on 17 September 1901. In August 1914 commissioned in the Imperial German navy as an auxiliary cruiser. Interned in April 1915 at Portsmouth, Virginia, USA and was finally seized by the US government on 6 April 1917. She was renamed on 9 June USS Von Steuben (ID-3017) and served as a transport until she was decommissioned on 13 October 1819m stricken a day alter and broken p in 1923.Her armament as a auxiliary cruiser consisted of 2-12cm/4.7” guns, 2-8,8cm/4.5” guns and 1 machinegun.
