Wood rafts in France for new building steamships according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 7 April 1841

From Anger came tidings dated 2 April that there a large wood raft going down the Loire and that since the time of napoleon when huge amounts of wood for the warship building were required not such a large raft was seen. She was manned by 90 men of the Royal Navy and there were others expected. The wood was required for the large steamships the French government ordered to be build necessary for a regular line with America. The necessary funds came available in 1840 en the ships were to be completed before the end of 1841.
