An
item referred to a letter written by captain Hallett of the Niger of New
Bedford reporting that on 16 November 1874 she was lying at Cape Verde
without seeing a whale underway. Hallett wrote that he contacted two days
earlier the bark Mattapolsett captain Chase of New Bedford. Everything was well
on board.
