American whaler Niger lying off New Zealand in November 1872 according to the Whalemen’s Shipping List dated Tuesday 7 January 1873

An item referred to a letter written by captain Grant on 10 November 1872 on board of the Niger of New Bedford in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand  reporting a cast in the previous season of 930 barrels humpback oil. He received tidings on 20 October that the James Arnould captain Briggs had a catch during her last voyage of 90 barrels sperm and 1.300 barrels humpback oil and the bark Abraham Barker a similar catch, both ships of New Bedford.
