Danish frigate Gefion visiting Nieuwe Diep, Netherlands according to the Groninger courant dated 29 August 1848

An item dated Nieuwe Diep, Netherlands the 23rd reported that the Danish frigate Gefion (1) captain Meier was towed by the tug Stad Amsterdam into the harbour. She was described as a beautiful ship of 44 guns with a large crew. She came for fresh water and victuals. According to tidings intended all ships of the Danish blockade fleet (2) in the North Sea to enter Nieuwe Diep for the same purpose.

1. 5th Rate built in 1843 and on 5 April 1849 captured and entered Prussian naval service as the Eckernforde. Dimensions 165’4”(gundeck) x 41’1”x 18’9” (hold).
.2 At that moment was a war (24 March 1848-1851) going between Denmark at one side and the German Confederation and the Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein at the other side.
