Prussian bark Friedrich Retzlaff exploded in Cardiff, England according to the Dutch newspaper Weekblad van Den Helder en het Nieuwediep dated 3 November 1856

An item reported that on last Monday around 05.30 oclock - especially the lower parts of the - British town Cardiff were awakened by what seemed to be a earth quake. However it was the new Prussian bark ship Friedrich Retzlaff which exploded probably caused by coal gas bursting into flame. Most of her crew was killed or wounded. The ship sunk although some parts of her could be find everywhere in the neighbourhood damaging nearby buildings.
