An item dated Vlissingen, Netherlands the 27th reported the departure towards Surinam of the Dutch corvette Zr.Ms. Hippomenes commanded by H.W. de Quartel.(1)

A so-called ‘kuilkorvet‘, on stocks at Amsterdam, Netherlands 1826, launched 1830, condemned in 1841 and becoming accommodation ship, in 1844 converted into barracks at Amsterdam, broken up 1854, dimensions 36,50m x 10,3m x ?, 776 tons displacement, 28 guns. Docked in the keel dock of the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands 15-16 September 1837 where some minor damages to the copper were repaired.
