Dutch navy wanted armoured river defence vessels similar to the Brazilian design according to the Dutch newspaper Heldersche Courant dated 3 October 1868

An item reported that the Royal Netherlands Navy was interested in obtaining an armoured river vessel. The new design was based on similar vessels now used by the Brazilian navy with as dimensions 36,5 x 8,5 x 1,5 meter.
