Polish submarine Orzel built in 1936-1939 at the shipyard Kon.Mij. De Schelde, Vlissingen, Netherlands

In 1936 reeived the Dutch shipyard Kon.Mij. De Schelde at Vlissingen, Netherlands an order to built a large submarine for Polish account. The money necessary for the building was collected by the Polish People. She managed to escpae form Estonian internment towards England. She was seven times sent on patrol but never returned form the last one. The wreck was never find back something what is called in navy terms 'still on patrol'. There is a curious relationship with the Dutch submarine Hr.Ms. O13, built in 1928-1931 earlier at the same yard, managed to escape when the Germans invaded in May 1940 to England and never returned from her last patrol. Her wreck is also still missing. Both submarines are possible lost in the same minefield in June 1940.

On the weblog of the municipality archive of Vlissingen, Netherlands is a small blog dealing with the Orzel while built in the Netherlands. Read on the next link, the text however is Dutch written.
