Movements of the Dutch corvettes Zr.Ms. Amphitrite and Meermin and the merchant ship Zeeuw returning from Surinam according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 30 August 1831

An item dated Middelburg, Netherlands the 28th reported the arrival of the ship Zeeuw captain J.J. ter Hofstede coming from Surinam loaded with sugar and which met the Dutch corvette Zr.Ms. Amphitrite (1) captain Machielsen in the Channel. Everything was well on board. The Amphitrite left on the 24th together with the Dutch corvette Zr.Ms. Meermin (2) commanded by Van Rhijn for a cruising voyage.

1. Flush-decked corvette, on stocks at the navy yard at Vlissingen, Netherlands by C. Soetermeer 1827, launched 22 June 1830, reduced to 20-gun ‘kuil’-corvette 1837, stricken >1851-1852<, with as dimensions 39 (between perpendiculars) x 10,5 (inner hull) x 4,10 (fore)-4,70 9aft) x 5,37 (hold below deck) metres and a displacement of <850 tons. The armament consisted of 18 short 30pd guns and 2-12pd guns after 1837.
2. On stocks 1828 at the navy yard at Vlissingen, Netherlands by C. Soetermeer, launched on 22 June 1830, stricken 1851, dimensions 31,50 x 9,3-9,50 x 4,50 (hold) metres, 527 tons displacement, 18 guns.
