Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij (N.H.M.) hired Dutch bark Anna Sophia as troop transport according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 23 December 1863

An item reported that the N.H.M. hired the Dutch ship Anna Sophia captain [H.] Beckering to transport 86 military included 7 non-commissioned officers and 3 cabin passengers from the Netherlands towards Java, Dutch East Indies. They were to embark in the second half of November. Transports costs for the officers ƒ 440,00, non-commissioners ƒ 150, soldiers ƒ 60,- and for the daily food money respectively ƒ0,80, ƒ 0,80 and ƒ 0,75. There was also a civilian (passenger 2nd class transports ƒ 150 and daily food money ƒ 0,80) to take with her.(1)

1. The newspaper Het Amsterdamsch handels- en effectenblad dated 9 November 1863 confirmed this transport adding that her homeport was Amsterdam, Netherlands. Source Staat der Nederlandsche Zeemagt en Koopvaardij-vloot op 1 Januarij 1864. Bark, captain P. Hoekstra (earlier Beckering), owned by F.U. Reiger&Co., tonnage 722 ton, built 1862 and homeport Amsterdam, Netherlands.
