Dutch frigate Tollens transported military to St. George d’Elmina , Ghana and the Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant dated 8 May 1861

An item dated Harderwijk, Netherlands the 4th reported that on the 25th a detachment commanded by major O.G.A. Anemaet and 2nd lieutenants J. Boeisums and H.W. Genger of 25 military included non-commissioned officers would depart for Nieuwediep, Netherlands and there embark the Dutch ship Tollens captain B. Verhagen destined for Java, Dutch East Indies. Underway were at St. George d‘Elmina [Dutch Gold Coast=Ghana] to embark recruits for the Dutch East Indies. At St. George d;’Elima were to embark 6 African soldiers who had served in the Dutch East Indies and of the above mentioned 25 military 2 non-commissioned officers and 2 corporal to be stationed temporarily there at the engagement depot. They were to replace military there stationed the year before and which now were also destined for the Dutch East Indies.(1)
