American paddle steamship USS Alabama visited Willemstad, Curacao according to the Dutch newspaper De Curacaosche courant dated 31 January 1863

An item reported the arrival at Willemstad, Curacao on Wednesday the 28th of the American warship Alabama commanded by Ed.T. Nichols coming from St. Thomas. The edition dated 7 February reported her departure on Monday 2nd towards open sea.(1)

1. The wood-built side-wheel paddle steamship USS Alabama laid down as a merchant ship at the shipyard of William H. Webb, New York,  City, USA in 1849, launched 10 June 1850, army transport spring/summer 1861, purchased by the navy and fitted out as a August warship 1861, decommissioned at Philadelphia, USA mid-June 1865, sold in July (?) 1850, becoming a merchant ship and finally destroyed by fire 1878. With a displacement of 1.281 tons/1,261 long tons were her dimensions 65,33 x 10,72 x 4,42 metres or 214’4” x 35’2”x 14’6”, Her crew numbered 175 men and her armament consisted of 8-32pd smoothbore guns. Her speed was 13 knots.
