An item referred to tidings reporting that McGregor (1) lost his brig Hero on a reef off Aux Cayes, Haiti caused by worse seamanship. The salvaged stores, sails and rigging were sold on a public auction. The captain of the transport Tarantula from London refused to bring M’Gregor towards St. Andreas while he had not paid half of the freight costs according to the contract. When M’Gregor tried to force him, the captain suddenly left Aux Cayes saluting the wreck of the Hero with 13 gun shots. The Tarantula was commanded by the Dutchman Poolman who now was bound for Jamaica to find there a freight. He refused to deal further with M’Gregor.
