Knorr appointed as supreme commander of the German Imperial navy instead of Von der Goltz according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 15 May 1895

An item dated Berlin, Germany 14th reporting that the German emperor accepted a day earlier the request of baron Von der Goltz to be dismissed as supreme commander of the German navy.(1) Von der Goltz became admiral à la suite while in his place Knorr was appointed.(2)

1. Maximilian Leopold Otto Ferdinan Freiherr von der Goltz (19 April 1838, Köningsberg, Prussia, nowadays Kaliningrad oblast, Russia, 20 December 1906 Potsdam, Germany). Between 1853 and 1895 navy officer and in 1889 appointed as supreme commander.
2. Ernst Wilhelm Eduard von Knorr (8 March 1840 Saarlouis, Rheinland-17 February 1920 Berlin, Germany) retired indeed in 1899 although with an appointment as admiral à la suite of the navy officers corps. Between 1856 and 1899 in actual service. In 1895 was he raised to the German nobility.
