Russian battery destroyed Turkish monitor according to the Dutch newspaper De Grondwet dated 15 June 1877

An item dated Rnstchuk 11th May reported that a Russian battery camouflaged by a vineyard that day fired at Turkish monitors near Ibrail. Within a hour was a large 3-masts iron armoured vessel hit and she sunk taking with her 300 men. A second item dated London, England 12th confirmed that a Turkish monitor commanded by Hassan Bey with her entire crew of 300 men sunk. It was unknown if any crewmember was saved.
