An item dated London, England 1st referred to the National
Advocate stating that Russia
seized an island in the Pacific near the Sandwich Islands
and which was in the meantime strengthened and to be used as a whaling
station.. Furthermore was said that whaling was important for Russia while this country used a
huge quantity of train oil. The newspaper expected that with a capable
government using all available means on short notice Russian ships could be
seen all over the world.
