(ex-Australian HMAS Ipswich 1942-196) Dutch Hr.Ms. Morotai 1946-1949 (Indonesian minesweeper KRI Hang Tuah 1949-1958)


As part of the Bathurst-class corvettes laid down at the shipyard of Evans Deakin&Co., Brisbane, Australia for the British Admiralty on 6 March 1941, launched by Evely Foll spouse of the Minister for the Interior, on 11 August, commissioned on 13 June 1942, manned by personnel of the Royal Australian Navy and later transferred to this navy, decommissioned on 5 July 1946. Commissioned on 5 July 1946 in the Royal Netherlands Navy as a fleet minesweeper later corvette and patrol vessel named. Handed over to the Dutch Department van Scheepvaart on 23 Augustus 1948 which transferred her on 28 December 1949 to the Indonesian A.L.R.I. becoming the minesweeper Hang Tuah. Sunk on 28 April 1958 off Balikpapan, Southern Borneo by an aircraft of the rebels supported by the American USA.

Technical details in Dutch naval service. With a displacement of 790 tons were her dimensions 56,79 (between perpendiculars)-57,45 (over all) x 9,45 x 2,54 metres/ With a horsepower of 1.750 ihp and a speed of 15 miles. Her crew numbered 75 men. The armament consisted of 1-10,2cm gun, 1-4cm machinegun and 1-2cm machinegun.
