An item dated Singapore the 19th reported
that on the Monday before the German cruisers Kaiser, Prinz Wilhelm and
Kormoran entered the Kiao-chau Bay to demand satisfaction for the killing of
German missionary in the province Shangtung by the anti foreigners party. This
party was lead by the Chinese governor Li Ping Heng. When the German admiral
demanded that the Chinese forces would leave the fortresses fled the Chinese
troops without any resistance. The German colours were hoisted above the
fortresses which were now manned by 600 German navy troops.
