Dutch tug Blankenburg at Ijmuiden, Netherlands for Walcheren, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Het vrije volk dated 12 July 1945

An item reported the arrival at Ijmuiden, Netherlands a day earlier of the Dutch tug Blankenburg (1) of L. Smit&Co. towing a sand suction dredger which was to serve in the this harbour. The tug was now waiting for the arrival of 3 cranes of the M.U.Z. (Zuiderzeewerken) underway from Den Oever towards Ijmuiden and which were to be towed to Walcheren. Zeeland. There were these cranes to be used for repairing the destroyed dikes.(1)

1. Delivered to the shipping company in January 1938 by the shipyard of L. Smit&Zoon’s Scheeps- en Werktuigbouw NV, Kinderdijk, Netherlands. Register tonnage 124 tons, deadweight 100 tons and as dimensions 28,95 x 6,38 x 3,16 metres. Horsepower 600 hp. In the of end August 1939 commissioned by the Royal Netherlands Navy as the guard vessel BV 20 armed with 1-5cm gun. Captured by the German forces at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands on 15 May 1940. In 1941 declared to be prize of was and on 4 March seized by the German navy and commissioned as the BS 2. In May 1945 found back at Hoek van Holland, Netherlands. Sold to the Italian shipping Micoperi Societa perAzioi at Rome, Italy in 1963. Renamed 1981 Tinacria Quinto although in 1983 again renamed Blankenburg. IMO 5046176 and callsign IKWB. Apparently in 2015 still existing.
2. By the Allies on 3 October 1944 for weakening the German defence. On 5 February 1946 was the last gap closed.
