Dismasted Russian 3-mast schooner Alice towed into Oostende, Belgium according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated Thursday 5 December 1901
An item reported that on Monday evening at Oostende, Belgium
the Russian 3-mast schooner Alice
was towed into the harbour. She was loaded with pipeclay or catlinite underway
from Fowey, England
towards Riga, Latvia. In the latest storm broke
two of her masts when she was sailing off Texel,
Netherlands.
Five crew members fled with a jawl to a nearby British ship. The four other
crewmembers included her captain stayed on board hoping for an opportunity to
bring her into safety. The same day was she discovered by the Belgian steam
fishing sloop O 20 which towed her to Oostende.
