New floating dry dock Soerabaja towed from Netherlands towards Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Vlissingse Courant dated 24 June 1913
An item reported that on Monday morning the Dutch
dry dock Soerabaja left Nieuwdiep, Netherlands owned by the Dutch tugs Atlas
(captain J. Bakker) and Titan (captain C. Spanjer). The Soerabaja was built at Amsterdam, Netherlands
for account of the Dutch East Indies
government. Both tugs of the Sleepdienstreederij (board members B.E. ZurMuhlen
en A.J. de Graaf) at Amsterdam were completely fitted out for the long voyage
and supplied with pumps, diving
equipment and strong electrically search lights. The Atlas had also a wireless
telegraphy device. Each tug had 3 especially at New York, USA
made 17,5”
thick Manila towing cables on board. A huge audience sighted the departure. On
board of the tug Hercules were many civil and military authorities invited to
view the spectacle.
