Dutch major shipyards interested in building escort vessels for Finnish navy in 1960-1961

In 1960-1961 was the Dutch firm Nederlandsche Vereenigde Scheepsbouw Bureaux (NEVESBU) at The Hague, Netherlands interested in obtaining an order from the Finnish navy for building four escort vessel (project 1271) and a training vessel.(1) The escort vessel were to have a speed of 25 knots and a displacement of around 1.000 ton. There was a discussion if they were to be fitted out with a combination of diesels and gas turbines or a other solution. In a preliminary table were six possibilities mentioned dealing with a standard displacement between 985-1.040 tons, a total horsepower of 9.000-20.700 hp and a speed of 22,7-29,0 knots. The suitable engines were Mercedes Benz 820Db en 839Bb, Bristol Siddely Proteus 1270, Fiat 3012 RSS and MetrovickG6. The Kon. Mij. De Schelde at Vlissingen, Netherlands received none order to built such vessels.
