An item dated 19th reported the passing of Nieuw Anjer [nowadays Anyer, Indonesia] by the British war steamship HMS Audacious underway from Batavia, Dutch East Indies towards England.(1)

Of the Audacious-class, laid down at the shipyard of Robert Napier, Glasgow, Scotland on 26 June 1867, launched on 27 February 1869, completed on 10 September 1970, commissioned in October 1870, decommissioned in 1894, hulked to be used as training ship in 1902, towed to Scapa Flow where she served as receiving ship in 1914, from there towed to Rosyth on 31 March 1920, store ship since 1920 and finally sold to be broken up on 15 March 1927. The armament consisted of 10-9” rifled muzzle-loading guns and 4-64pound rifled muzzle loading guns.
