Dutch shipyard Kon. Mij. De Schelde at Vlissingen, Netherlands repaired repairing engines and boilers of the Dutch protected cruiser Hr. Ms. Zeeland in 1900


In the order administration dated 15 August 1900was the order for account of the Dutch Department of Navy described as repairing engines and boilers of the protected cruiser Zeeland. Contracted price ƒ 5.8470,00. Repair costs totally ƒ 50.684,84 (material ƒ 29.889,89, labour ƒ 7.058,51, expenses ƒ 3.736,94) resulting in a profit of ƒ 7.785,16.(1)

Tender sent for ƒ 2.050.000 without armour and armament on 28 March 1895, to be delivered for 1 September 1897, building ordered on 30 April 1895, keel laid down on the shipyard of the Kon. Mij. De Schelde, Vlissingen, Netherlands with yard number 85 on the south slip 27 November 1895, in the thrushes on 12 November 1896, plated on 31 December 1896, launched at 15.00 o’clock on Saturday 20 March 1897, docked in Middelburg, Netherlands in 1897, technical trial 19 December 1897-17 January 1898, returning with a broken steering gear, again technical trial 31 March-5 April 1898 off Den Helder, Netherlands, official trial on 4 April 1898, delivered on 1 June 1898, departed fort he first voyage on 18 June 1898,  arrived at the shipyard at Vlissingen for repairs of her engines on 18 January 1904, docked between 17 March-21 April 1904 in the dock at Middelburg, back tot the roads of Vlissingen on 5 October 1904, fitted out with new Yarrow water tube boilers Nrs, 68-75, decommissioned in 1924 and finally sold on a public auction to be broken up for ƒ 136.749,29 on 27 August 1924.  Superviseds during the building were the naval engineers J. lt Hooft until 1 May 1896 and since then J.L.K. van Waveren. Head engineer of the shipyard was J. Janszen jr. Speed during trial 19,5 miles, contracted speed 20 miles. Costs complete fitted out fort he first voyage ƒ 2.949.181. Displacement 1.678 ton (during launching)-3.900 tons and as dimensions 89,75 (between perpendiculars)-93,30 (over all) x 14,75 x 5,50 x 9,869 (hold) metres or 294.6-307.0 x 48.5 x 17.9 x 32.5. Her crew numbered 325 men. Armour consisted of 50mm thick deck and 100 mm fort he conning turret. The armament consisted of 2-15cm guns, 8-12cm guns, 2-7,5cm guns, 4-3,7cm guns and 3 machineguns; according to the shipyard 1 torpedo tube. Two engines and 8 boilers.
