Dutch steam gunboat 2nd class Bever 1876-1940

Drawn as a floating accommodation in the 30’s of the 20th Century

call sign GQDJ, laid down at the shipyard of Christie, Nolet en De Kuyper, Delfhaven, Netherlands in July 1875, launched on 8 February 1876, added to the accommodation ship Hr. Ms. Neptunus on 7 March 1896, police vessel for quarantine prevention measures at Harlingen, Netherlands 4-22 February 1901, stationed at Rotterdam, Netherlands to secure safety during the strike 31 January-1 April 1903, guard ship at Vlissingen, Netherlands since 20 June 1907, converted at the navy yard at Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands into ammunition and accommodation for the coastal artillery at Vlissingen in 1915, stricken in 1920, added to the torpedo service, converted at the navy yard at Willemsoord, Netherlands into accommodation for marines at Rotterdam in 1930, used by the national youth union and lying at Oudeschild, Netherlands in summer 1937 and used as floating barracks with kitchen for the navy airfield De Kooy 1933-1940.

Displacement 210 tons and as dimensions 25,88 x 7,64 x 2,20 metres. Two screws. Two compound direct drive steam engines delivering 146 ihp. Speed 8 knots. Her crew numbered 22 (original)-34 men. The armament consisted of a bow spar with 2 torpedoes which was removed in 1901, 1 rifled 23cm gun which was replaced in 1890 by 1-21cm A gun, 2-3,7cm guns and 1-3,7cm revolver gun.
