French navy experimenting with steam and diesel driven submarines according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1913-1914 no. 8

An item reported that the French navy intended to test in the Mediterranean submarines fitted out with steam engines or with diesel engines under similar circumstances. The results were decisive for the choice for surface machinery to be placed in the submarines to be laid down in 1914. In the waters around Corsica were also extended submarine manoeuvres planned.
