Italian battleship Caio Duilio (1913) in 1923 (1957)


Launched in 1913, completed in 1915. Displacement 22.562 tons, horsepower 24.000 hp, coal-oil fired turbines machinery and an armament of 13-12” guns, 16-6” guns, 21 light and machineguns and 3 submerged torpedo tubes. Sister ship Andrea Doria.(1)

1. Brassey‘s naval and shipping annual 1923. Dimensions 575¾ x 92 x 29 feet. Built at Castellammare. The armour consisted of 1 6-19,5” thick belt. 1¾: thick deck, above the belt was the armour 6” thick and the main and secondary armament were protected by respectively 9,5 and 5”. Speed 23 knots. Her crew numbered 1.074 men.

Archive Dutch Naval Staff 1886-1942 (National Archive at the Hague, Netherlands)  inventory number 155. Fleets (the British Empire and foreign countries) on 1 February 1923. She was laid down in 1912 and not earlier broken up as in 1957.
