Japanese battle cruiser Akagi in 1923

As Amagi-class battle cruiser

After conversion into an aircraft carrier

Displacement 42.000 tons, horsepower 170.000, turbine geared machinery and an armament of 10-16” guns, 20-5” guns and 8 torpedo tubes (4 submerged and 4 surfaced). As a result of the Washington Treaty was she to be scrapped, bus she converted into an aircraft carrier.(1)

1. Brassey‘s naval and shipping annual 1923. Displacement 40.000 ton and as dimensions 850 x 100 feet. Being built at Kure, Japan. Speed 33 knots. Laid down as a battlecruiser at Kure, Japan, on 6 December 1920, launched on 22 April 1925, commissioned on 25 March 1927 and scuttled after she was damaged during an American air attack in the Battle of Midway on 5 June 1942.
