An item referred to the magazine Marine Rundschau dated December 1936 reporting that the British forces at Singapore were to be strengthened. The at Malta in reserve lying minesweepers Abingdon, Aberdare, Bagshot, Derby, Fareham, Harro, Huntley, Stoke and Widnes was bound end January 1937 for Singapore. These minesweepers had a displacement of 710 tons, built in 1917-1918 and with an armament of 1-10,2cm gun and 1-7,6cm gun. At that moment consisted the British naval force at Singapore just of the monitor HMS Terror. The flying boats squadron No. 230 consisting of 5 unites was also destined towards Singapore.
