Not much interest by American shipyards for building a battleship according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1910-1911 no. 11

An item reported that for the building of a new battleship just the Newport News Shipbuilding Company sent a bid. Building costs were estimated if fitted out with Parsons turbines and a speed of 21 miles 5.790.000 dollars, with Curtiss turbines 5.775.000 dollars and with piston engines 5.830.000 dollars, building time 36 months. The other shipyards did not bids due to the demanded working days of 8 hours.
