Austria buying and building ten torpedo boats under the naval budget 1885 according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1887-1888 no. 10
An item referred to the discussion dealing with the Austrian naval budget for 1885 and in which the minister for navy stated that a large number of torpedo boats was needed for a strong defence regarded the small number of available sailors. Totally were 80 boats needed of which just 18 were available causing the new building of 12-1st class and 50-2nd class. The 1st class boats were to have a minimum speed of 24 miles, a speed until only achieved by the British firm Yarrow. It was the intention to order two large boats from this firm and to use these as models for further building. Further more was a budget asked to purchased offensive and defence torpedoes needed for the torpedo boats. The intention was to purchase under 1885 budget 2-24 miles Yarrow torpedo boats and 8 smaller torpedo boats.
