British HMS battleship Sans Pareil 1885-1907

Of the Victoria-class consisting of the Victoria and the Sans Pareil, although there both ships quite differs in design and appearance. The Sans Pareil was later built with the main armament placed in turrets in stead of barbettes and with a slightly larger length. She was designed by Nathaniel Barnaby.(1) Together with the Victoria nicknamed The Pair of Slippers. The Victoria-class was preceded by the Admiral-class and the Trafalgar-class.

Laid down at the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company, Leamouth, London, England on 21 April 1885, launched on 9 May 1887, commissioned on 8 July 1891, 1895-1899 port guard ship at Sheerness, England and finally sold to be broken up on 9 April 1907 which was executed at the dock on the River Ribble, Preston, Lancashire.

With a displacement of 10.470 tons and as dimensions 110 x 21 x 8,15 metres or 370 x 70 x 26.9 feet. The Humphreys&Tennant triple expansion engines delivered via 2 shaft 8.000 )natural draught)-14.482 (forced draught) ihp allowing a speed of 16 (natural draught)-17,75 (forced draught) knots. Her crew numbered 550 men. The armour consisted of a 45cm/18” thick belt, 7,6cm/3” thick deck, 41c,/16” thick bulkheads with the conning tower, main gun turrets and redoubts protected by respectively 36cm/14”(sides)-5,1cm/2” (top), 43cm/17”  and 46cm/18”. Further more was fore the battery a screen with a thickness of 15cm/16” and aft 7,6cm/3”. The armament consisted of 2-41,28cm/16,25” breech loading guns, 1-25,4cm/10” breech loading gun, 12-15,24cm/6” breech laoding guns, 12-6pd guns and 6 torpedo tubes.
