Of the Trafalgar-class with as sister ship tge Trafalgar. Last British battleship with one citadel while since then the citadel was divided in tow separate parts situated fore and aft. Preceded by the Admiral and Victoria-classes and succeeded by the HMS Hood and the Royal Sovereign and Centurion-classes. Laid down at the Pembroke Dockyard on 8 April 1886, launched on 27 March 1888, trials in July 1890 ballasted while still lacking guns and mountings, completed on 10 July 1891, commissioned on 30 June 1891, in the reserve since February 1903 and finally sold broken up at Swansea on 9 July 1912.
Displacement 12.590 tons and as dimensions 105 x 22 x 8,69 metres or 345 x 73 x 28.6 feet. The 2-shaft Maudslay triple expansion machinery delivered 7.500 (normal draught)-12.102 (forced draught) ihp allowing a speed of 15 natural draught)-16,8 (forced draught) knots. Her crew numbered 577 men. The armour consisted of a 35,6cm/14”(ends)-50,8cm/20” (amidships) thick belt, bulkheads of 35,6cm/14” (aft)-40,6cm/16” (fore), battery bulkheads of 10,2-12,7cm4-5” thickness, 7,6cm/3” thick deck and the citadel, turrets and conning tower protected by respectively 40,6-45,7cm/16-18”, 45,7cm/18” and 45,6cm/14”. The armament consisted of 2x2-34,4cm/13.5” breech loading guns, 6-12cm/4.7” quick firing guns, 8-6pd guns, 9-3pd guns and 5 torpedo tubes.
