British shipyard Yarrow&Co. built French river gunboat Opale to serve in Dahomey according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad no. 4 dated 1892-1893


An item reported that the British shipyard Yarrow&Co, built a stern wheel gunboat for account of the French cabinet to serve in the Dahomey of the same design as the Mosquito and the Herald of the British navy serving on the Zambesi. Dimensions 100' x 18'  x 18". Speed 10 miles. Built in 23 days and fitted out.(1)

1. The shallow draught gunboat Opale. Laid down on 28 April 1892, launched on 21 May 1892, commissioned on 6 August 1892, in August 1892 part of the flotilla of Benin, 1893 used for surveying.
