Dutch screw steamship 4th class Zr. Ms. Samarang repaired according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 30 May 1855

An item referred to another newspaper De Oostpost dated Wednesday 23rd no. 21 which reported that in June 1854 the Dutch screw steamship Samarang was placed on the slip of the old navy yard for repairs caused by the corrosion of the iron screw bolts which connected the wooden planking to the iron frame.. With a length of 38 (on loadline) x 7 metres was her weight when placed on the slip included the fastened engine parts around 165 ton. It was the first time that a ship of this size was towed on to the slip situated in a sharp angle towards the river. On the 16th launched in the presence of a huge audience included the resident. To prevent her hitting the right bank of the river were bushels of bamboo fastened to stakes. From there she went towards the equipage yard taken some stores on board and from there to the basin of the new naval establishment where she was lying below the boiler sheerleg. This all took place within just a few hours. After the replacing of the boilers and masts was she to be dry docked to be coppered and her stern was to be fitted out with an enlarged ‘voortstuwer’ (screw?).(1)
