An item reported that except for the armoured cruiser of the Lion design of which the building at Vickers, England was ordered, were in stead 2 of 3of such ships being built in Japan. The names of these ships were respectively Kongo (1) and the Hiyai (2) at the navv yard Yokosuka, Kirishima (3) by Mitsubishi and the Haruna (4) by Kawasaki). There were non reliable details available.

Laid down at Vickers, Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom on 17 January 1911, launched on 18 May 1912, completed on 16 August 1913, In 1924, 1927-1928 modernized and reconstructed September 1929-31 March 1931 reconstructed into a battleship, after modernizing 1 June 1935-8 January 1937 was she a classified as a fast battleship  and torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Sealion around 55 nautical miles north west of Keelung after entering Formosa Strait 1 day earlier on 21 November 1944. Laid down at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal, Yokosuka, Japan on 4 November 1911, launched on 21 November 1912, completed on 4 August 1914, partly disarmed in 1929 and reclassified as a reserve ship end November 1929, reconstruction 1930-1931 was not completed executed, between 1937-1941 reconstructed into a fast battleship, heavily damaged by American aircraft during the battle of Guadalcanal was she scuttled by Japanese destroyers on in the evening of 14 November 1942. Laid down at the Mitsubishi Shipyard Company, Japan on 17 March 1912, launched on 1 December 1913, completed on 19 April 1915, modernized and reconstructed into a battleship between 1927-1934 and into a fast battleship between 18 November 1934-8 June 1936 and sunk during the battle of Guadalcanal after being heavily damaged by the USS battleship Washington after she herself had damaged the USS South Dakota at 03:25 o’clock in the morning of 15 November 1942.Designed by the British naval engineer George Thurston.

Laid down at the Kawasaki Dockyard Company, Kobe, Japan on 16 March 1912, launched on 14 December 1913, completed on 19 April 1915, reconstructed into a battleship 1926-July 1928, reconstructed into a fast battleship between 1 August 1933-30 September 1934, sunk by American planes on 28 July 1945 and finally broken up in 1946. Designed by the British naval engineer George Thurston.
