British admiral Beatty praised his men for their behaviour at the battle of Jutland according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 8 June 1916

An item referred to a message of the British admiral Beatty (1) to his officers and sailors saying that Germany expected to defeat with no problems the British fleet. The long awaited glorious day was however a victory for the Royal British Navy although not such a victory as England had expected.(2)

1. David Richard Beatty (17 January 1871 Stapeley, Cheshire, England-12 March 1936 London, England). Dismissed in the rank of Admiral of the Fleet. Commanded the 1st Battle cruiser Squadron 1913-1916 and the Grandfleet 1916-1918 and First Sea Lord 1 November 1919-30 July 1927.

British losses 6.094 men killed, 674 men wounded, 3 battle cruisers, 3 armoured cruisers, 8 destroyers total tonnage lost 113.300 tons and German losses 2.551 men killed, 507 wounded, 1 battle cruiser, 1 pre-dreadnought, 4 light cruisers, total tonnage 62.300 tons.
