French protected cruiser 2nd class E 4 to be named Protet according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens 1895 nr. 8


An item reported that the until indicated as the E4 French protected cruiser 2nd class was to be named Amiral Protet with building costs 8.300.000 francs. She was designed by engineer M. Tissier with a displacement of 4.000 tons and as dimensions 101 x 13,6 metres. Fitted out with water tube boilers, horsepower 9.000 ihp and a speed of 19 knots. The armament was to consist of 4-16cm guns, 10-10cm guns, 10-4,7cm guns and 4-3,7 cm quick firing guns.(1)
