Brazilian Minas Geraes

An item referred to the Moniteur de la flotte reporting that an Argentinean naval commission under rear admiral Manuel Garcia intended to visit European harbours for examining the building of warships there. The intention was to built 2-13.000 tons battleships and several torpedo boats.(1)

1. After Brazil ordered in 1907 the building of two dreadnoughts responded Argentina directly with ordering two such ships to be designed by the American Fore River Shipbuilding Company, the Rivadavia was laid down on 25 May 1901 and her sister ship Moreno on 9 July 1910, with a displacement of 27.900 (standard)-30.600 (full load) tons. The Brazilian Minas Geraes-class battleships of 19.281 (normal)-21.200 (full load) tons, consisting of the Minaes Geraes laid down by Armstrong Whitworth on 17 April 1907 and the Sao Paulo at Vickers on 30 April 1907.
